Located on the shore of Lake Atitlan and originally built more than 20 years ago, Casa Paxanax has been remodeled to update it’s style, spaces and finishes. This project included some significant changes to the structure and spaces including the removal of some interior walls.

The updated style is inspired by a passive and minimalist zen design. The first floor of this two-story house has been opened up so that the open plan living area, kitchen and studio can be transformed into a bedroom. The second floor, accessed via a floating timber staircase, has a mezzanine style bedroom, with views of the lake and a private bathroom.

The finishes make use of a number of interesting local materials. The walls in the bathroom are inspired by traditional Guatemalan fabrics and the cedar timber is used to provide a sense of lightness.

Localizado a orillas del Lago Atitlan, construida hace mas de 20 años, Casa Paxanax fue remodelada para abrirse en cuanto a espacios y acabados a un estilo minimalista y con la cultura zen. Este proyecto incluye cambios significantes de estructura y espacios, incluyendo remover algunas paredes interiores.

El estilo inspirado en una arquitectura pasiva y zen. El primer piso de esta vivienda de dos niveles, ha sido abierto para que el area social, cocina y estudio puedan integrarse. El segundo nivel accesible a travez de unas gradas de madera flotantes, tiene un mezzanine desde el cual la habitación puede observar el lago.

Los acabados combinan materiales locales, las paredes de la ducha del baño son de cemento liquido, inspirado en los patrones de los textiles tradicionales guatemaltecos, la madera utilizada cifres y palo blanco con su acabado natural brinda luz y naturalidad a los espacios.
